On February 18, 2026 The Japanese Society Club of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Mahidol University (ICT Mahidol), organized the “Tea Ceremony and Origami” activity. The event was led by Mr. Stephen Edward Smith, Student and Alumni Engagement Officer, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vasaka Visoottiviseth, Chair of the Master of Science Program in Cyber Security and Information Assurance, as the club’s advisors. The opening remarks and facilitation of the activity were delivered by second-year students from the Bachelor of Science Program in Information and Communication Technology (ICT International Program), including Mr. Tri Trisuthan (Club Secretary) and Mr. Tanyawat Pattanathaiyanon (Club Member), at the Co-Working Space, 3rd floor, Faculty of ICT, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.
The activity provided an opportunity for first- to fourth-year students from the Bachelor of Science Program in Information and Communication Technology (ICT International Program) and the Bachelor of Science Program in Digital Science and Technology (DST Thai Program) to exchange knowledge and experiences related to Japanese language and culture. Participants engaged in discussions on the use of Japanese in daily life, differences in social etiquette, and traditional customs that reflect the distinctive identity of Japanese society. The atmosphere was friendly and open, encouraging participants to ask questions, share perspectives, and learn meaningfully from one another’s experiences.
In addition, the event featured a hands-on workshop on the Japanese green tea ceremony. Participants learned about its historical background, preparation procedures, equipment arrangement, proper posture, and etiquette observed during the ceremony. They also had the opportunity to practice the tea-making process themselves, gaining a deeper appreciation for the refinement and meticulousness of Japanese tea culture.
